This work provides a collection of the observations of columnist Ellen Goodman on topics ranging from nuclear power reactors to the problems of a modern "superwoman" and the difficulties of separation from one's children. Ellen Goodman (born April 11, 1941) is an American journalist and syndicated columnist. She won a Pulitzer Prize in 1980. Goodman's career began as a reporter for Newsweek magazine between 1963 and 1965. She was a reporter at the Detroit Free Press starting in 1965 and has worked as an associate editor at The Boston Globe since 1967. Her column was syndicated by The Washington Post Writers Group in 1976. In 1996, she taught at Stanford University as the first Lorry I. Lokey Visiting professor in Professional Journalism. In 1998, Goodman received the Elijah Parish Lovejoy Award as well as an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Colby College. She compared "anthropogenic warming deniers" to holocaust deniers. She announced her retirement in her final column on January 1, 2010. She received the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Distinguished Writing Award (1980). In 1988, Goodman won the Hubert H. Humphrey Civil Rights Award from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. In 2008, she won the Ernie Pyle Award for Lifetime Achievement from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. Sensible, funny, intelligent - unique in her ability to connect our personal lives to public issues. Ellen continues to write about those things that really matter to us: our children and our families, our relationships and the quality of our life, now and in the future.
