Oxford University Press, 1956. Cloth. Good. Ex-library copy, smaller sturdy book, quality gray cloth, blue illustration of banner at bottom front right, blue lettering very fine on spine, 103 stiff pages. One-line stamp on title page for school library, library card glued with one entry on reverse of final end paper, glue stains inside both covers, less so on first front end paper, reverse of page 103 and adjacent end paper. DJ has no library markings except sticker at spine bottom, glossy with blue, red, black and white front illustrated with Joan of Arc, blue spine, list of plays by Christopher Fry on back, translator of this work. DJ has microtear at top back edge. Near Very Good, considering it is ex-library.

Anouilh seems to claim in the introduction that it's intended mainly as entertainment, but it does add historical insights unavailable elsewhere (as far as I know). For example: People like to talk about Joan as one of the inventors of nationalism, but was she also one of the inventors of humanism?
