First edition, nineteenth century treatise on the use of mortars and stone in architecture.Three quarters leather over marbled paper covered boards, quarto, 298 pp. followed by 32 tipped-in plates (31 are bi-fold with 3 of those including extra fold-out; 1 fold-out); complete. Leather on spine has been nicely re-done (although not that recently) with green gilt stamped leather label added. Leather to corners is almost completely worn away; some scuffing to marbled paper. Internals are very fine with only some very minor, occasonal foxing as per usual. Overall, a very attracticve shelf-copy with excellent plates.

"On every standard typewriter, there's a metal bar with a row of teeth spaced exactly one-tenth of an inch apart. In 1874 this famous bar lifted the typewriter from the inventor's bench and placed it in the office where it changed our reading habits, modified our concepts of legibility, and eventually opened the world of business to women."
