Papered boards; edges lightly marked; pencilled price lightly erased from the top corner of the front flyleaf; an excellent copy with the slightly creased dustwrapper. John Winston Howard OM AC SSI (born 26 July 1939) was Australia's 25th Prime Minister 'from 11 March 1996 until 3 December 2007, the second-longest prime ministerial term after Robert Menzies. When he lost the seat of Bennelong in 2007, John Howard also became the second Australian prime minister to lose his seat, the first being Stanley Melbourne Bruce in 1929' (National Archives of Australia). He was Leader of the Liberal Party from 1985 to 1989, and again from 1995 to 2007. Provenance: Hon Dr John Bannon AO (1943-2015), Premier of South Australia from 1982 to 1992, and Leader of the South Australian Labor Party from 1979 to 1992. His personal bookplate (based on an early map of the city of Adelaide) is mounted on the front pastedown; he has signed and dated it (2010). His initials are written indistinctly in blue ink on the blue pastedown above the bookplate.
