About This Item

New York: Ace Publishing Corporation, 1969. First edition. 8vo, 286, [2]pp. Signed by Le Guin on the title page. Wrappers with iconic illustration by Leo & Diane Dillon. Light spine creasing, previous marking blacked out on bottom edge of page block, with an additional marking of "B" on front cover. Otherwise, nicely preserved and tight. Very good+.

Signed paperback original first edition, preceding the Walker hardcover, of Ursula K. Le Guin's science fiction classic.  The book was popular after its release, even though it was well ahead of its time, exploring themes of sex and gender, specifically the elimination thereof.  It won both the Nebula and Hugo awards the following year.  Signed copies of the paperback original are scarce.

Synopsis

The Left Hand of Darkness is a science fiction novel by Ursula K. Le Guin, first published in 1969. The book is one of the first major works of feminist science fiction and is one in a series of books by Le Guin all set in the fictional Hainish universe. It won the 1969 Nebula and 1970 Hugo awards. Plans for a feature film and video game based on the books were announced by Phobos Entertainment Holdings in 2004, but appear to have since stalled.
