About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1985. First edition. Very good plus.. Advance uncorrected proofs of Ellis's semi-autobiographical first novel, an explosive success published when he was still a student at Bennington College. Of the novel's path to publication, Simon and Schuster editor Morgan Entrekin recalled: "What you did at S&S in those days was circulate the manuscript. Herman Gollob was a senior editor, and he wrote on the sheet for Less than Zero, 'If there's a market for callow fragmentary fiction about rich self-indulgent coke-sniffing cock-sucking zombies, then let's buy it.'" There was a market for that, it turned out. There still is. 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original printed yellow wrappers. 183, [1] pages. A few brief marginal notes and neat underlinings in pen to text. Minor edgewear and sunning to wrappers.
