About This Item
Mindelheim, Germany: Three Kings Press, 1970. Limited Edition. Staplebound. Very good. Duodecimo, pp. 32 pages. Fine press copy 20 of a limited edition of 50 copies. Signed by the engraver under George Washington's linocut opposite the title page. Staple-bound paperback with minor wear to the covers. In 1783, General George Washington wrote this letter to Annis Boudinot Stockton, widow of New Jersey politician Richard Stockton who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Both Washington and "Mrs. Stockton" corresponded over the years, which included her sending him poems as well as letters. This edition was printed in 1970 on a hand press through the Three Kings Press in Germany, in an edition of 50 copies. This is number 20, and is signed by Peter von Lehmden, of Oak Park, Illinois, who designed the linocut of George Washington featured in the front. The day after Washington wrote this 1783 letter, the peace treaty with Great Britain was signed in Europe. This edition also includes a poem written by Annis Boudinot Stockton.
