London:: Heinemann,, (1927.). Very good in red cloth with black lettering (a bit of sunning to the spine. some foxing and offsetting to the endpapers, but an attractive copy of one of his more scarce books.) . First printing. Although we think of Maugham as primarily a novelist, he achieved his early success with his plays, mostly on lighter themes, starting with "Lady Frederick" in 1907, the story of a high society lady who tries to discourage a persistent young suitor. That play was an instant success with a long run in London's West End and by the next year - 1908 - he had four plays running simultaneously in London and his success continued into later years. Includes original cast. 199 pp.
