London: Marshall Brothers Ex-Library. About Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. No date (circa 1894). The author left the Royal Albert Docks on board the S.S. Chusan in November of 1890, bound for Ceylon, where it was her intention to preach the Gospel and convert to Christianity the heathen she found there. Her proselytising and dedication to her perceived calling was, as she recounts in these writings, successful, but she contracted malaria, and died in 1893 at the age of 28. Preface by J. Elder Cumming, and a four-page biographical sketch by the author's father, J. Gelson Gregson. Juniper cloth w/debossed illustration/decoration in black to front cover, gilt lettering to front cover/spine, 208 pages, illustrated. Spine moderately cocked, edgewear, bumped/worn corners/spine ends, scuffed cloth, library bookplate to front pastedown, gift inscription (not from the author) dated 1896 on half-title, two embossed library-seal impressions, library stamp to rear pastedown, tanning. A scarce title in any condition..
