Edited by Georg J Zytaruk and James T Boulton. First edition. First edition. Volume II of the Letters, edited by George J Zytaruk and James T Boulton, presents more than 700 letters, covering the period from June 1913 to October 1916. This volume covers Lawrence's life from the enthusiastic reception of Sons and Lovers to the completion of the first finished manuscript of Women in Love. He returns from Italy in June 1913 to visit England and receives recognition as expands to include, for example, Edward Marsh, Lady Cynthia Asquith, Catherine Carswell, Lady Ottoline Morrell, Betrand Russell, E M Forster, S S Koteliansky, Katherine Mansfield and John Middleton Murray. He returns to Italy in the autum of 1913 to work on his new novel "The Sisters", which would be a 'different' kind of book, the work subsequently becomes "The Rainbow" and "Women in Love". Lawrence and Frieda return of England in June 1914 to be married, and are caught here by the War and reduced to poverty and eventual isolation. The letters vividly record his attempts to establish and ideal community, Rananim. Condition: Jacket light edge wear else a very good copy in like jacket.
