London: John Murray, 1899. Second edition. Cloth. Good. 12mo. 221 pp. [2] Blue cloth, gilt titiling, yapped edges. Rubbing to cloth, heaviest at spine ends and corners, discoloration to end leaves, shaken but holding, po name in ink to title. Frontis engraving by Countess Feodora Gleichen. A collection of letters written by Swedish psychiatrist, Axel Munthe during his time in Naples. A Well loved copy owned by Caroline Sidney Sinkler. Sinkler's Bookplate and signature present on fpd and front flyleaf. Distant relative of Teddy Roosevelt, Sinkler was a philanthropist of the arts. Having a wide circle of friends, including Isabella Steward Gardner and Cecilia Beaux, she was also heavily involved in the bohemian art colony Dabsville, in Gloucester, MA. Association copy.
