(Subject: European Conflicts & The Napoleonic Wars) Wheeler served in the 51st Foot (1st Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry), and these letters provide an authentic account his experiences in the ill-fated Walcheren Campaign of 1809, his service in the Peninsular, 1810-12, and in the Waterloo Campaign. He continued in the Army after the war, seeing service in Malta and Corfu. He was mustered out in 1828.
