Perkins pp. 57-5; BAL 7495. Perkins: "In this volume of letters and poems, Hearn tells of his life in the South, gives his views on the [black] question, and his impressions of Memphis, New Orleans, and New York. The verses are both light and serious, and these are translations from [black] and Creole love songs.
