About This Item

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, 1813. Two volumes in three - Volume One - xxiii, [1], 304pp; Volume Two - [2], 352pp and Volume Three - [2], 353-668pp. Contemporary full sprinkled calf, smooth spines, divided into five panels by gilt triple rules either side of lozenges containing quadrilobes, morocco title label to second panel, volume in gilt to fourth, remaining panels with central gilt device, covers bordered by volute gilt roll, edges with gilt roll. Front joint to volume one is split and very weak, just about holding on cords, couple of small splits to joints of volumes two and three but both holding well, slightly chipped to spine ends, some minor abrasions to covers, heavier abrasions to lower cover of volume one, extremities rubbed, corners slightly bumped and worn. Internally lightly browned throughout, but generally fairly clean. Bound at Duffield's Public Library, Bath, with their ticket to front pastedowns. The first appearance of Aubrey's 'Brief Lives'. First Edition. Full Calf. Good. 8vo.
