This is a Near Fine Copy of this book bound in a very attractive full brown calf with green moroccan title label to spine lettered in gilt.There is further gilt tolling along edges of the outer boards and embossed with gilt along fore-edge of the boards.Marbled endpapers and all the page edges are marbled.Half title page is present.Complete with illustrations by phiz numbering 39 and with engraved frontispiece of Dickens as a younger man.The book does NOT contain the usual heavy foxing and where there is some browning it tends to be on the verso of the plates and sporadically to the margins of the plates.There are no previous names or inscriptions present.This is The First Edition 1st issue points showing as "latter" instead of "letter" on the 6th to last line of page 160, but sister " for "visitor" on the 17th line of page 123 etc.The book has a firm binding with NO hinge weakness and no loose leaves present.It's an attractive and polished binding that would sit handsomely on any bookshelf.Certainly one or Dicken's more sought after titles and a great addition to any collection of his works.8vo (xvi) 624pp First Edition [1839] .
