Sepia tone reproduction of a portrait of Walter H. Page as a frontispiece, with tissue guard, which is somewhat browned and foxed. Throughout the book there are black and white photographs. Green coloured cloth covered boards with facsimile signature of Walter H. Page to the front panel, with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Gilt to the top text edge. The first (only), of three, volumes that are the life and letters of Walter H. Page the American ambassador to England when World War I broke out, this volume dealing with his life and up to the outbreak of war. Softening and rubbing to the back strip edges with the cloth of the top back strip edge being a little stretched – please see photograph. Bumping of the book corners with rubbing of the book edges and panels. The panel show marks, rubs, flecking and sunning – particularly to the back strip. Browning and a little foxing of the text block edges with age toning of the pages. Offset tanning and foxing to the end pages. The rear hinge has cracked and the underlying webbing is visible.
