Description:
New York: J. K. Wellman, 1846. Rare and highly collectible, contains one the first printings of Edgar Allan Poe's (listed as Edgar A. Poe in the table of contents) famous poem, The Raven (nevermore.) The last entry in the book is Poe's on pages 376-378. Other authors inlcude: John Greenleaf Whittier (John G. Whittier here) with The Ballad of Cassandra Southwick. Quarter leather (leather extended spine and corners) and black marbled (or rubbed) boards. 378 pages with mostly bright pages with tanned borders - pages in center tend to be bright with tanned boarders and some light foxing; endpapers are tanned. (Probably steelcut) black and white engravings. Front cover is detached (but present). Leather spine has gilt titles is rubbed and worn at head and heel. A highly desired volume, worth restoring. We note one previously folded page corner and pages 97/98 have been torn out (it was the beginning of an essay, Luther - His Faith and Work) and is missing. The first publication of this… Read More
