About the author

The Author: Theodore Silverstein (1904-2001) was among the most distinguished literary medievalists of the 20th century. He was one of the last to earn a doctorate under George Lyman Kittredge of Harvard. From 1947 until his retirement, he taught at the University of Chicago. After retirement he continued to be an active editor, translator and critic.
The Editor: John C. Jacobs was one of the last to complete a doctorate under Silverstein's guidance at the University of Chicago. Since 1987, he has taught at Loyola University Chicago.
