About This Item

London, U.K.: Bloomsbury , 2012. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. In this meticulously reported and illuminating book, Rajiv Chandrasekaran focuses on southern Afghanistan in the year of President Obama's surge, and reveals the epic tug of war that occurred between the president and a military that increasingly went its own way. The profound ramifications this political battle had on the region and the world are laid bare through a cast of fascinating characters-disillusioned and inept diplomats, frustrated soldiers, headstrong officers-who played a part in the process of pumping American money and soldiers into Afghan nation-building. What emerges in LITTLE AMERICis a detailed picture of unsavory compromise-warlords who were to be marginalized suddenly embraced, the Karzai family transformed from foe to friend, fighting corruption no longer a top priority-and a venture that became politically, financially, and strategically unsustainable. Author of IMPERIAL LIFE IN THE EMERALD CITY, which won the 2007 Samuel Johnson Prize and was adapted by Paul Greengrass for the motion picture "Green Zone." As new, first edition, first printing,, in fine, mylar-protected dust jacket.[Not remainder-marked or price-clipped] NF49/NFBS2

About Joe Staats, Bookseller

Modern Literature, Mysteries, and More!
We specialize in collectible, contemporary signed first editions. First edition means the first printing. (Later printings of the first edition are typically not printed on acid-free paper, and should be avoided by collectors.) Signatures are obtained by us in person. Inscribed books sold by us may contain a line, a phrase, or a sketch that the author has chosen to add. Our signed books are not dedicated to anybody in particular (not to your grandmother, your Aunt Gladys, your ex-lover or your former cellmate), except in the rare case of a presentation copy from an author to a noteworthy person. All our books are hardcover, unless the book is an Advance Reading Copy, Uncorrected Proof, or PBO. You can expect that the books we send you will be as described, and in a physical condition worthy of the author’s having signed them. We do not sell remainder-marked books, signed or otherwise
