Wrappers sunned at spine and fore-edge of lower wrapper, usual slight tanning to text stock, but a very nice copy, very good or better. First edition, ordinary issue, of "One of Jack B. Yeats's Books for Children." This issue was published at one shilling; for five shillings, one could buy a copy colored throughout by Yeats, and with an original drawing. COLBECK II:955.

Longmans, Green, and Co. London. 1872 - 74. FIRST EDITION. Three volumes. 8vo. (8.8 x 5.8 inches). Previous owner armorial bookplate (Isaac Holden, politician and inventor of a wool-combing machine, who received a Baronetcy in 1893) and also ink name and address stamped to the front blank free endpapers. Some foxing to the blank endpapers otherwise a very good bright and clean set throughout. All three volumes in fine nineteenth century bindings of full tan calf. Spines with raised bands, the compartments ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Red and green labels, gilt. Boards with double gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in attractive nineteenth century bindings. The bindings are unsigned but very high quality work.

Very good copy. Original dark blue cloth on laid paper. Decorative gilt on spine and gilt lettering on front panel.
Boards clean with very slight wear at tips. Spine ends slightly pinched. Binding tight. Edges untrimmed. Top edge a little dusty.
Internally clean. No foxing or spotting.
Minor inscriptions in pencil on first blank dated 1906.
A lovely copy. Includes works such as On Baile's Strand, In The Seven Woods and The Shadowy Waters with a Preface by Yeats dated 18 May 1906.

Scarce First Edition. MacMillan, London 1899.
Written by Stephen Gwynn (1864-1950), who was a one time Irish Nationalist MP for Galway, the book is a type of travel guide for the Ulster counties of Donegal and Antrim.
The book contains a total of 87 lovely illustrations by the noted Irish illustrator Hugh Thomson (1860-1920).
Book is is in very good condition. Green coloured boards with gilt lettering. Top edge of text block gilt, others rough cut. Some fading to boards particularly spine with head and tail rubbed. Binding good. Internally clean with no foxing, markings or inscriptions.
There is a pull out map of the counties in very good condition.
Front pastedown has the bookplate of previous owner, Matthew Mackey, a Newcastle upon Tyne collector. There is also a tiny label of Newcastle upon Tyne bookshop (Mawson, Swan & Morgan). A lovely copy in collectible condition.More images can be provided.
