New York: Harper & Brothers, 1854. 8 volumes bound in 4 - 7 1/2" H. Brown leather spines and corners, brown cloth covered boards. Five raised bands on each spine, gilt lettering (title and volume numbers) and darker banding/decoration. All edges marbled, marbled endpapers. A few small b&w illustrations in text only (reproductions of signatures, map, etc. - no portraits). Volume I - 1854 - 375 pp: Mary Tudor / Magdalene of France / Mary of Lorraine. Volume II - 1854 - 402 pp: Mary of Lorraine, cont'd. / Lady Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox. Volumes III & IV - 1854 - 336 pp, 347 pp: Mary Stuart. Volumes V & VI - 1868 - 333 pp, 365 pp: Mary Stuart, cont'd. Volume VII - 1859 - 470 pp: Mary Stuart, cont'd. Volume VIII - 1859 - 379 pp: Elizabeth Stuart / Sophia, Electress of Hanover. All volumes have a few scattered tiny light and dark foxing marks throughout the pages, all bindings are very tight, three volumes have a few splits in the inside hinge paper - all are holding firmly, three volumes have tiny wrinkling marks at fore-edge of some pages - generally to the last 50 to 200 pages and most likely from the manufacturing process, two volumes have some pages with tiny/small bump/wrinkle at bottom corner, a few very small bumps to edges of some boards, books have edge wear, areas of darkening on the leather - leather has been treated with leather preservative, darkening to the top of the text blocks, a few minor light scuffs, some lettering on the spines have some loss of gold. . Half-Leather. Good+.
