About This Item
Paris: M. De Brunoff Editeur, 1922. Original wraps. Very Good. The 1922 signed/limited of this elegant collection of Leon Bakst designs for the ballet "La Belle au Bois Dormant" ("Sleeping Beauty"). #236 OF 500 COPIES SIGNED BY BOTH LEON BAKST AND THE PUBLISHER DE BRUNHOFF at the limitation. Clean and VG+ in its original light-brown wrappers, with very mild wear and creasing along the spine and its hinges, and very light offsetting at the front panel's edges. Folio, deckled edges. Includes 54 magnificent tipped-in color plates by Bakst, all in Fine condition (having been well-protected by their captioned tissue-guards). "Ballet en Cinq actes d'apres le conte de Perrault -- Musique de Tchaikovsky -- Preface d'Andre Levinson" (from the title page). Lacking the elusive original slipcase and the glassine dustjacket. A wonderful example of Ballet Russes design from one of its founders, the great Leon Bakst.
