VG-. 14.5 Cm x 20.5 Cm. f/piece+xv+407, 27 further ills inc. 3 plates; central gutter opening but quite secure, short crack top rear gutter, otherwise internally clean, tight unmarked; covers have sm. white splash mark engrained in cloth centre fr. and similar along bttom back edge, these not really serious and otherwise clean & bright, sp.ends a little rubbed & sp.sl.darkened. An above average copy of this entertaining collection of anecdotes and reminiscences by the eminent Victorian naturalist, inc. Natural History in Scotland, whaling, seals, antiquities, King Charles the First's Parrot, singing mice and much else. Preface dated April 1875 so, though no indication of this, presumably this was issued year after publication although technically a reissue of the first edition.
