Very good, 1st edition (new/2nd imp, 1900) no d/j, tan clothbound boards, black & red printed cover, gilt/red spine titling (spine slightly cocked); text block firm (some weakness in guttering); pages unmarked, some sunning. Donor's neat inscription on ffep.. 12mo (190 x 130 / 7_"" x 5""). Churchill's popular memoir of his experiences in the first 5 months of the 2nd Boer War. The correspondence of which this volume is composed appeared in the columns of the Morning Post, and extends from October 26, 1899, to March 10, 1900. The volume gives a detailed account of the Natal campaigns up to and including the relief of Ladysmith, and contains in all thirty-seven letters. 3 fold-out maps (1st in colour on fpc).
