First edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, fifteen plates, two double-paged maps, one folding map to the rear, and many in-text images. Collated complete. A detailed and comprehensive survey of London South of the River Thames, with chapters on the historic South of London, Bermondsey, Kennington, Battersea, Brixton, Peckham, Clapham, Greenwich, and more. As well as commentary over the River Thames itself and the River Effra. Written by Sir Walter Besant, an English novelist and historian. Also includes an inserted colour plate of Old London Bridge and Westminster Hall and Victoria Tower printed by Methuen & Co. In the original burgundy cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light spotting to the first and last few pages. A 3" closed tear to the folding map to the rear. Very Good
