About This Item

London: William Heinemann, Ltd, 1930. Cloth. Very Good +/Very Good. A solid, very presentable copy of the 1930 1st UK edition, with additional passages that were left out of the American edition. Tight and VG+ (with bright gilt-titling along the spine) in a crisp, VG to VG+ dustjacket, with very light soiling to the front panel, mild darkening along the spine and very light chipping at its crown. Thick octavo, the elegant 1st British edition of Thomas Wolfe's first published novel.

Synopsis

Look Homeward, Angel: A Story of the Buried Life is a 1929 novel by Thomas Wolfe. It is Wolfe's first novel, and is considered a highly autobiographical American Bildungsroman. The character of Eugene Gant is generally believed to be a depiction of Wolfe himself. The novel covers the span of time from Gant's birth to the age of 19. The setting is the fictional town and state of Altamont, Catawba, which is considered to be a not-so-subtle mirror of his hometown, Asheville, North Carolina.
