About This Item
London: Heinemann,, 1965. Do you know what love is? I'll tell you: it is whatever you can still betray First edition, first impression, signed by the author on the title page. Disturbed by the public's romanticization of his previous novel, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1963), le Carré wrote this explicit satire of a fictional British intelligence agency in an attempt to deconstruct the mythos surrounding MI6 in the post-war era. Octavo. Original black boards, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket. Discreet ownership signature to front pastedown. Minimal sunning to jacket spine, laminate lifting slightly at spine folds, else sharp and unclipped: a fine copy in near-fine dust jacket.
