Two part issue of this pioneering underground newspaper, known as the Freep. Established in 1964, the paper was known for its coverage of the counterculture movement and radical politics, as well as its strong anti-Vietnam War stance. Financial and staffing troubles led to its eventual demise in 1978. This issue with a lengthy piece by Eldridge Cleaver, Black Panther Minister of Information, outlining his views on revolution and education; an article on the Black Panther Party's call for an anti-fascist front in Oakland; an article on the division and dissension within the SDS; a piece on the Women's Liberation movement; etc. Also present is part of an unpublished work "They Became What They Beheld," by Marshall McCluhan and Edmund Carpenter. With short pieces on films, books, music, etc. GOOD condition. Slightly ex-library with a stamp and an address label on the front cover. Minor to moderate general browning. Paper slightly brittle. Horizontal fold crease present. Light soiling. Several large creases to the corners of the second part.
