About This Item
Chicago : Reilly and Lee, c1945. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 7". John Neill. An illustrated edition of this story from the popular land of Oz. Written by Ruth Plumly Thompson as a continuation of the previous books on Oz. Based around L Frank Baum's original tales of Oz series, Thompson wrote several works continuing from Baum's series. Other titles by Plumly Thompson include 'The Royal Book of Oz', 'Kabumpo in Oz', 'Grampa in Oz' and many others. L Frank Baum was an American author chiefly known for his children's books, in particular his 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' and its thirteen novel sequels. Despite the verso of title page stating 'Copyright 1926 by The Reilly & Lee co' this work is actually c1945 as it was then that this work was published without the colour plates. With pictorial endpapers in addition to numerous black and white vignette illustrations by John R Neill, who illustrated more than forty stories set in the Land of Oz. Neill's pen and ink drawings have become identified almost exclusively with the Oz series. In original cloth covered boards with pictorial detail pasted to the front board. Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the spine, joints and extremities. Rubbing is heavier to the joints and to the head and tail of spine. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Very Good
