(price-clipped) [modest shelfwear to bottom edge and top of spine, former owner's initials plus date & place of purchase written in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed beneath rear jacket flap); the jacket is slightly faded at the spine, with a couple of small scrape marks on the rear panel and a small closed tear at the upper rear hinge]. (pen and ink drawings) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "For: / C.A. Gerken[?] / Strange you overlooked / this chapter in A.L.'s / life! / With all the best! / Oscar Lewis." A "rich and witty" biographical fantasy about what Abraham Lincoln's later life might have been like had he survived John Wilkes Booth's assassination attempt. Typography and binding design by W.A. Dwiggins. Signed by Author .
