Original brown cloth, recently rebacked retaining nearly all of the original spine; spine label mostly lacking. A Presentation copy INSCRIBED by the author on the front blank: "To/William Wordsworth Esq./with the author's/compliments." In addition this copy is SIGNED by the recipient on the title page: "W Wordsworth/Rydal Mount." In this volume, and in a second that was issued the following year, Ord attempted a history of England in verse. His efforts were not well received. One reviewer in THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE claimed "that the author has formed his manner and style too much on that of Lord Byron in exaggeration, impetuosity, and a perpetual straining for effect." A scarce book from Wordsworth's library. Old bookseller description laid in. Housed in a new calf-backed slipcase with cloth chemise.

It is found in an autograph booklet signed by 29 journalists attending The Annual Conference of the Institute of Journalists in London. In September 1900, Winston Churchill was just 25 years old, a soldier and war-correspondent who had yet to hold elected office. On 8 September 1900, Churchill wrote to his mother, Lady Randolph: "My dear Mamma, I am sorry not to be able to come until Wednesday morning, but I thought it better to attend the Annual Dinner of the Conference of the Institute of Journalists, at which I have been invited to reply for the war-correspondents. Copy number 3 of 5 [from an edition of 500] of Bukowski's private "Author's Edition," with a typescript signed by Bukowski stapled in at the center. According to Aaron Krumhansl, "As late as the early 1970s Bukowski still retained multiple copies of this title. At some point he created a small private 'Author's Edition' by tipping in or binding in at the center staple either an original signed illustration or a signed typescript poem. Not less than three nor more than five such copies were created." This copy in particular is mentioned by Krumhansl as the Polak copy. 23 pp. Stapled tan wraps. Near Fine, faint waves to wraps. Bukowksi's only self-published chapbook, comprised of "overlooked (or looked-over and shunned)" poems.
