by FLAMMARION, Camille

  • Used

Description

Paris: Ernest Flammarion, Editeur, ND. First Thus. Half-Leather Binding. Good+. Lucien Rudaux. Large 8vo. Pp. 206 with the last two pages consisting of the Table des Matieres. Frontis. engraving by Lucien Rudaux, along with many plates and textural illustrations. Marbled endpapers. Green silk bookmark bound-in. Bound in quarter brown morocco, featuring a marbled affect, with four raised bands, over marbled-paper covered boards. Gilt lettering and astronomical symbols stamped on spine. Corners worn and with foxing, moderate to heavy, on the first third of the text block. Bookseller tag (Ernest Martin, "Ancienne Librairie," Paris) on front pastedown. A Flammarion work of science fiction, perhaps his best-known, which was influenced by his studies into para-psychology. Rudaux's illustrations successfully evoke the fantastic collection of dialogs between a human and the soul of a universe-hopping alien who has been reincarnated in many different worlds, presented here in handsome binding that hints at the work's supernatural conceits.
