INSCRIBED by Kirkwood (as "Ken") upside down on rear endpaper. Kirkwood spent more than a decade in Japan as a Canadian diplomat and was involved in developing Japanese interest in mountain climbing. This book includes a 15-sonnet section titled "Sonnets written in the Japanese Alps" (pages 107-122).
