Subtitled 'Biographical, critical, bibliographical & anecdotal illustrative of the literature of the former half of the present century'. 540pp, many uncut, illustrated with 85 portraits in a caricature style, said in the preface to be largely by Daniel Maclise but possibly one or two by 'Alfred Crowquill' (Alfred Henry Forrester). Edges untrimmed. Bound in red boards with blue pattern. Bumping to spine, corners and edges, spine faded, scratch to front board, top edges soiled, slight foxing to tissue-guard, title page and endpapers, and pages generally stiff and rippled, otherwise good copy with no inscriptions.
