In South Africa more black women work in domestic service than in almost any other occupational category. Interviewed by a black Xhosa-speaking woman, herself a domestic worker, this explores what lies beneath the sullen or calm exterior seen by their employers. Research was conducted mainly in the Eastern Cape Province.
