His books include Clausewitz and the State: The Man, His Theories, and His Times (Princeton). Gordon A. Craig (1913-2005) was J. E. Wallace Sterling Professor of Humanities Emeritus at Stanford University. Felix Gilbert (1905-1991) was Professor Emeritus in the School of Historical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
