One such paratrooper was Kurt Gabel and this is his story- a tale of courage, comradeship, and relentless determination in the face of battle. A German Jew who immigrated to the US in 1938, he joined the 513th Regiment of the 17th Airborne Division in 1943 and fought against his former countrymen at the Battle of the Bulge. His memoirs recall grueling days of basic training and jump school and convey with rare immediacy the terrible reality of combat. A clean very presentable cop in a Brodart mylar jacket.
