New York: P.F. Collier & Son, 1930. A collection of four stories, part of a reprint series of ""The Foreign Classical Romances." Included are the title story and "Chelkash," "Varenka Olessova," and "Twenty-Six and One." There is no publication date, but bibliographers put it tentatively at 1928. This title is uncommon in period editions. Brown cloth binding, with titling on the spine in black and gilt. Clean text; 380 pages. Frontis portrait and a biography of Gorky. The translation from the Russian is not credited. Rubbed at the margins and with the rear gutter cracked. Basically a sound copy, and an interesting author to re-discover. No dustjacket.. Reprint Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
