About the author

Susan S. Aronson, MD, FAAP, is a pediatric advisor and webmaster for the Early Childhood Education Linkage System-Healthy Child Care Pennsylvania at the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has retired as clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Sue is a nationally recognized expert on implementation of health and safety in early education and child care programs, and an ex officio member of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Early Childhood. She is the author/editor of Healthy Young Children, 5th Edition (2012). Her column "Ask Dr. Sue" was published in Exchange magazine for many years.

Timothy R. Shope, MD, MPH, FAAP, is an associate professor of pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr Shope is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Early Childhood. He retired after 21 years of service in the Navy in 2011.
