About the author

Former Senior University Lecturer in Geography Paul Hindle is Chairman of the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal Society, where he wrote the Society's Towpath Guide in 2009 and he also edits the quarterly journal as well as the North West Geography online journal. Paul has several previously published books, mainly to do with old roads, walking routes and medieval England, and, since retiring from teaching, he now concentrates on researching, writing and lecturing in various fields of historical geography.
