Trading out of the port of Poole in their small sailing ships, they established a successful commerce with the European ports, The North American colonies and, more importantly and lastingly in the fisheries of Newfoundland. This trading lasted from Elizabethan times up until the middle of the nineteenth century. Poole?s share of this trade varied from decade to decade but, in the more prosperous period starting in the late 1700?s and lasting until about 1830, Poole had the lion?s share of the Newfoundland trade of the ?Western Adventurers?. This volume covers the family history, the commercial interests, the newly built halls and mansions and the various epitaphs remaining to champion these old traders and entrepreneurs.* An ACCEPTABLE damp stained copy of the 1st. edition, suitable for reference, with tatty but essentially complete jacket.*
