London: John Lehmann, 1946. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine-. First Impression ("First published in England 1946") of this slim, quiet masterpiece (Bellow's first book) from the Nobel prizewinning author of Herzog, Augie March, and Henderson the Rain King. Slim crown 8vo (184 x 119mm): 191,[1]pp. Publisher's finely woven sunflower cloth, spine stamped in brown, illustrated dust jacket (price-clipped) by Robert Medley. Signed by Bellow on front fly-leaf. Fine, tight (probably unread), and bright; about Fine jacket with touch of usual darkening to spine and back panels but front panel still vivid. Cronin & Hall 2. Written in diary format, the story centers on Joseph, "a would-be writer and intellectual caught waiting for the Draft, who romantically believes that intellectual and spiritual enlightenment is to be attained by isolating himself within the confines of a room in a cheap Chicago boarding house while he studies the great writers of the Enlightenment. . . . [None Stated]: [None Stated], [1884]. First Edition. No Binding. Very good. A Very Good RARE ORIGINAL WOODBLOCK POSTER for a stage play featuring Peck's Bad Boy. Civil War Veteran, Politician, and Author George Wilbur Peck (1840-1916), who owned a Wisconsin newspaper known as the "Sun", authored a humorous weekly newspaper column which often featured a character of his own invention named Henry "Hennery" Peck who first appeared in 1882. The character was tremendously popular and became known as "Peck's Bad Boy". Peck went on to write a series of books' featuring Hennery Peck who was known for pulling pranks on members of the town, but most especially on his father, for the pure joy of causing trouble and chaos. Peck began writing these stories, which were turned into books as well, in the early 1880s. 'Peck's Bad Boy' became a household name in the United States and was so popular that he entered the American lexicon with the dictionary definition of "Peck's bad boy" being "one whose bad behavior…

Description:
London: Vincent Brooks Day & Son, 1870. Beautiful coloured-lithographic panorama, as issued in its original decorated cloth boards: the series of 24 connected panels combine to illustrate Psalm 104, forming a continuous panorama over three-and-a-half metres in total. This copy is unusually fine; where seen, these fragile works more commonly display significant wear. The work has been featured in some detail online, testament to its visual impact (see for example a handsome commentary including a full reproduction at the Bridwell Library of Southern Methodist University in the USA). The panorama begins with an image of the psalmist, King David, covering his head in reverence to the Lord; at the end, he appears again, wearing a crown and playing his harp within his palace in Jerusalem. The remainder of the panorama consists of various landscapes teeming with life, as described in the psalm, and includes a scene showing the "leviathan" or whale. The panorama was designed by Susan Maria Ffarington…
