About This Item

New York: Scholastic, 2011. 8vo size trade paperback; 312 pages Signed by author on fep From back: "Marcelo Sandoval hears music that nobody else can hear - part of an autism-like condition that no doctor has been able to identify. But his father has never fully believed in the music of Marcelo's unique perception of reality, and he challenges Marcelo to work in the mailroom of his law firm for the summer...to join "the real world." There Marcelo meets Jasmine, his beautiful and surprising coworker, and Wendell, the son of another partner in the firm. He learns about competition and jealousy, anger and desire. But it's a picture he finds in a file - a picture of a girl with half a face - that truly connects him with the real world: its suffering, its injustice, and what he can do to fight." We had the privilege of meeting the author and having this book signed for us at an author event. It was a small group, mostly teenagers and their parents. The author formed us into a half circle and spoke to us, read from his book, listened to comments and answered questions. It was one of the best author events I have ever been to - and I have been to a lot of author events (a lot, really.) Stork seems to have the unique ability to relate to people of all ages, not just "young adult" readers. He was generous in sharing his history as a person as well as his journey as a writer and the story of his book and his characters. If you ever have the opportunity to hear him speak, please do so. This is a brand new book, out of the box and into the author's hand to be signed. It has edgewear. Quotes are for illustrative purposes and remain the property of their copyright holders. Thanks for shopping with us. 100% of your purchase benefits charity and supports literacy and life-long learning. . Signed by Author. Trade Paperback. New/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
