The first edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Ink inscription to the front free end paper dated 1955. John Buchan, 1st Baron Tweedsmuir (1875-1940) was a Scottish novelist, historian, and politician who served as Governor General of Canada. This is his biography of James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose (1612-1650), a Scottish nobleman, poet, and soldier who fought in the Civil War in Scotland on behalf of King Charles I. After the Restoration, Montrose was celebrated as a romantic hero and remembered for his tactical brilliance during warfare. Illustrated throughout. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, except for fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for offsetting to the end papers and the odd spot to the first few pages. Very Good
