About This Item
Macfadden Publications, 1939. Very Good Plus. Three vintage magazines from the collection of the author Lamarre, without signature but with his brief ink notations on the front wrappers and contents page of each. His story "Crime Trail of the Fiend from Lebanon" ran three installments, covering the Midwest crime spree of Earl Young. Lamarre wrote a few other pieces in similar magazines around the same time, but little else is documented. Long-running magazine, began as companion to "True Detective" (1929). Many entries use false names, to protect the innocent until proven guilty. Much of the "true crime" content resembles fiction, and the magazine copyright states that the photos are intended only to illustrate, not represent, the individuals named in the stories. Great cover art, gradually with photo covers, more sensational and visceral in later publication. Quarto magazine, 15c cover price, b/w throughout, color wrapper, 80pp, side-stapled and perfect-bound. Very Good, moisture wrinkling, small bruise to front, brief creases, slight roll (August), and Very Good Plus, with light foxing, faint roll and creases (July, September). Crisp overall.
