Isidore Liseux was a publisher of erotica in 19th century France. His translation of Fanny Hill was first published in 1888. This edition, possibly by the Olympia Press in Paris is illustrated by Paul-Émile Bécat, perhaps the most prolific illustrator of erotica in 20th century France. Bécat was a fine artist, studying at l'École de Beaux-Arts and winning the Prix de Rome in 1920. In 1928 he married the artist Marie Monnier who was the sister of Adrienne Monnier, the first woman in Paris to open her own bookshop at La Maison des Amis des Livres, and who with her American lover Sylvia Beach ran Shakespeare and Company.
