About This Item

London: John C. Nimmo, 1889. Cloth. Good. 12" by 8". L. Boisson. A limited printing of this biography of the French Nobleman Count Grammont, written by his brother in law. 'With a portrait of the author and thirty-three etchings by L. Boisson on India paper from original compositions' This edition is number 418 of 780 copies printed for England and America edited by Sir Walter Scott. Philibert de Grammont was exiled from the French court in 1662 and relocated to London, entering the English court where he met and married Elizabeth Hamilton, a famed beauty. Her brother, Anthony Hamilton, wrote this biography which provides a fascinating insight in to the court of Charles II. In cloth bindings. Externally, smart with some rubbing. Slightly bumped. Marks to rear boards. Hinges tender but still firm. Internally, binding strained. Pages foxed to the first and last few pages but otherwise generally clean with some scattered spots. Some tidemarks to pages. Good
