First of the edition, printed on fine laid paper and limited to a set number of copies printed, with Introduction, Notes, and Appendices. Illustrated with 2 portraits and 10 photogravures reproducing original drawings by Antoine Gaymard. 8vo, handsomely bound in full polished calf, the upper covers elaborately decorated in gilt with multi-roll tooled borders surrounding gilt ruled inner frames, ruled in gilt at the edges, the lower covers double fillet ruled in gilt, the spines with raised bands gilt stopped and ruled, central ornamental devices gilt within the compartments, two lettered and numbered in gilt, silk doublures, all edges gilt and gauffered in a very pleasant pattern. xvi, 484; 505 including index pp. A very handsome set, the text-blocks and illustrations all well preserved, some of the inevitable foxing at the prelims, a bit to some initial leaves, still a very pleasing copy, Vol. II with some light cracking to the front and rear lower joints, confined to the external portions, hinges strong and the books tight.
