About the author

Britton survived the war and went on to publish this book in 1882, as well as seven others before his death in 1930. In his introduction, Phillip T. Tucker considers the political and strategic importance of the trans-Mississippi theater. He is the author of "The South's Finest: The First Confederate Brigade from Pea Ridge to Vicksburg."
