Green Cloth, Gilt And Black Lettering And Illustration. First Published 1909, Reprinted By Barse & Hopkins, Reprinted Later (As This Copy) By Grosset & Dunlap. A Children's History Of European Exploration In The Western Hemisphere In The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries. Although The Title Refers To A Finding Of America Which Is A Concept That Would Have Been Of The Greatest Surprise To The Inhabitants Who Were Found, The Book Is Otherwise Remarkable For Its Great Evenness Of Discussion Of Explorers Nd The Natives, A Children's Basic History Which I Think Would Even Be Entirely Politically Correct Today And Which Is A Credit To, And Perhaps A Landmark Change In, American Children's Literature. The Book Is Clean, Hinges Solid, Gilt And Black Lettering Bright And Complete, Some Rubbing To Gold Background Of Illustration, No Names Or Marks, Frayed Across Top And Bottom Of Spine And A Few Small Frays At Tips.
